Michael J. Sluka
Mr. Sluka was appointed as President & Chief Executive Officer in October 2016.
Mr. Sluka joined Guarantee in April, 2008 as Chief Financial Officer. He served in that capacity until August, 2014 when he assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer of Guarantee Insurance Group, the parent company of Guarantee Insurance Company and its MGA affiliate. From 1999 through 2007, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of TIG Insurance and Fairfax Financial Holdings insurance run-off segment. Prior thereto, Mr. Sluka was an insurance audit partner at KPMG, LLP.
Mr. Sluka is a certified public accountant and holds a B.B.A. degree from Loyola University.
Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer
David A. Skup
Mr. Skup was appointed Chief Financial Officer in August, 2014 and Treasurer in October, 2016. He served as Guarantee’s Controller from 2009 through 2014.
Following a ten-year period with a national Big Four accounting firm specializing in insurance and financial services, David has been employed in the insurance industry since 1984.
His prior experience includes VP-Internal Audit for a large insurance holding company based in Jacksonville, CFO for a nationwide annuity marketing/servicing TPA based in northern California, COO of the alternative market operations center for Aon, and Controller and CFO for a mid-sized health insurer based in Michigan.
David is a CPA, FLMI and Certified Fraud Examiner, and has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree in Risk Management & Insurance.
SVP/Counsel and Secretary
Eric S. Dawson
Mr. Dawson was appointed SVP and counsel in August, 2014 and Secretary in October, 2016. Mr. Dawson received his Bachelor as well as Master of Arts degrees in English Literature from Columbia University in New York, New York. After living and working abroad for several years, Mr. Dawson then continued his education at Brooklyn Law School in Brooklyn, New York, where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1999. Mr. Dawson has a diverse legal background. On the criminal side, he has served as a State Attorney in Miami-Dade County, Florida. On the civil side, Mr. Dawson has been a civil trial attorney for a large personal auto carrier located in the South Florida region as well as in-house counsel for both foreign and domestic insurance carriers in Florida. He is a member of the Florida Bar and is admitted to practice in Florida.
Chief Claims Officer
Maria C. Allen
Maria Allen, Chief Claims Officer, provides national claims management and oversight for all workers’ compensation claims for Guarantee Insurance Company. Ms. Allen began her insurance career as a subrogation examiner for the Insurance Commissioner. She specialized in workers’ compensation while working for Walt Disney World in 1979. She has held various positions including adjuster, supervisor, and manager for insurers, self-insured employers, self-insured funds and third party administrators.
Ms. Allen holds a 520 All Lines Florida adjuster license and also has a Professional Safety Certificate. Ms. Allen has served as past president of the Orlando Claims Association. She served on the Board of Directors for the WCCP Association since its inception in 1989 until November 2008, and served as Chairman of the Board for 12 years.
Ms. Allen is a graduate of the University of Florida with a BA in Education.
SVP – Operations & Reinsurance
Timothy A. Fredette
Tim Fredette was appointed Senior Vice President of Operations and Reinsurance in October, 2016. Mr. Fredette joined Guarantee in 2013 as an Operations Analyst prior to moving into a reinsurance accounting role. Mr. Fredette also served as Reinsurance Manager before being appointed Assistant Vice President of Reinsurance in 2015 and Vice President of Operations and Reinsurance later that year. He currently manages the reinsurance, operations and IT support teams at GIC.
Mr. Fredette began his career in 2006 with the Zenith Insurance Company in Los Angeles, California. There he focused on analysis, reporting and application development in various departments including Premium Audit, Finance and Operations.
Tim graduated from California State University Northridge with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance.
Vice President - Underwriting
Avery R. Barnette
Becky Barnette joined Guarantee in April, 2015 with over 30 years of property casualty underwriting and operational experience. Most recently Ms. Barnette was Senior Vice President for QBE in their Programs Division. Prior to that, she was Vice President of Zenith Insurance Company overseeing the underwriting and operation of their automated online workers compensation program for accounts with less than $100,000 in premium.
Ms. Barnette’s career began with American International Group’s Risk Management (AIGRM) profit center holding various positions underwriting large account business. Ms. Barnette went on to hold the position of Profit Center Manager and later Underwriting Director for AIG’s Specialty Workers Compensation profit center offering workers compensation products to accounts with less than $1,000,000 in premium. Ms. Barnette left AIG to join Reliance National and was a founding member of their CyberComp division.
Mollie joined Guarantee in 2016 as Controller. Mollie started her accounting career with Johnson & Lambert, a national accounting firm, where she spent 10 years auditing clients in the insurance industry, progressing to Senior Manager with the firm. Following her career with Johnson & Lambert, where Mollie progressed to a Senior Manager position, she spent a short time with a national consulting firm managing financial and compliance consulting engagements.
Mollie is a Certified Public Accountant with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina and a Masters of Business Administration from Charleston Southern University.
Assistant Vice President - Compliance
Tricia E. Keyes
Tricia joined Guarantee in 2014 as a compliance analyst. She has over 25 years of experience in the insurance and financial services industry, including positions in actuarial analysis, credit risk analysis, compliance, and consulting. Her career began with 10 years as an actuarial analyst at the National Council on Compensation Insurance, analyzing nationwide workers compensation data and developing industry rates and rate filings. Tricia also worked for 10 years at JM Family Enterprises, a Fortune 100 ranked company that provides automotive-related financial services and insurance products.
Tricia graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. She also holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from Florida Atlantic University. Tricia is a licensed 2-20 General Lines agent.
